About the Event
Many of us around the world have watched with great concern as the Israel-Hamas War has continued. All the more so with the indiscriminate attack on civilians by Hamas, including taking many hostages. Since the war began, Israelis have banded to together to support those most directly affected by the conflict. As part of this is the civilian effort to assist in the safe return of hostages taken by Hamas.
Join Meretz Australia and Hashomer Hatzair Australia as we hear from Shanna about the latest news from Israel, and the efforts she is involved in to save the Israeli civilians held in Gaza.
Info on our speaker:
Shanna Orlik's journey into activism began at a young age when she joined Hashomer Hatzair in Paris at the age of 11. In 2021 she assumed the role of Special Advisor on Arab Society Affairs to the Deputy Minister of Economics in the Israeli "government of change."
Over the last nine months, Shanna has been leading a collective of young activists within the ongoing Israeli pro-democracy movement. Her efforts are focused on radicalising the movement, connecting it to the struggle for the end of the Israeli Occupation, and transitioning from protests to civil disobedience through the organisation of impactful actions. As with many others in this movement, as soon as the current war broke out, she quickly shifted her efforts to save Israeli lives.
